Message from Commissioner of Police

City of Kolkata has the oldest Police Commissionerate in the country with an illustrious history of excellence in all aspects of policing. We are committed to our responsibilities towards maintaining law and order, managing traffic, prevention and detection of crime and spearheading various citizen friendly initiatives for the people of this city. Maintaining traffic with minimum loss of life and limb is one the biggest challenge for all of us. In order to meet up this challenge Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt Mamata Banerjee started a road safety awareness program titled as Safe Drive Save Life all over the State in 2016. This program is very well received by everyone in the State. Its positive impact can be appreciated by substantial reduction in annual casualty figure in road accidents since then. To take her mission forward Kolkata Police started organizing Safe Drive Save Life Half Marathon in 2018. Within two years it became biggest half marathon event of this State. Unfortunately this popular event got disrupted because of pandemic. I am happy to announce resumption of this much awaited event for all of you and expecting large participation this year too. We are taking all efforts to make this event enjoyable for all the runners and appeal common citizen to come out in large number to cheer them up enroute and help us in making everyone aware about road safety.
Shri Vineet Kumar Goyal, IPS Commissioner of Police, Kolkata
